Strategy Meets the Coast: Trustees Joint Retreat in Malindi (June 2–5, 2026)

Trustees of the Defined Benefit (DB) – CBK Pension Fund and Defined Contribution (DC) – Banki Kuu Pension Scheme 2012 held a Joint Board of Trustees Mid-Term Strategic Review Retreat in Malindi. The session provided a valuable platform to reflect on performance, align on strategy, and chart the Fund’s future direction.

The retreat opened with a review of the Fund’s strategic position, achievements, and governance priorities, including regulatory compliance and fiduciary oversight. The recently launched Post-Retirement Medical Fund (PRMF), covering May 25, 2026 to May 24, 2027, was also highlighted.

Discussions then moved into a detailed assessment of investment performance, asset allocation, risk management, and operational efficiency. Trustees identified progress made while agreeing on improvements to strengthen performance, internal controls, and service delivery.

On the final day, key insights were translated into actionable priorities focused on enhancing fund performance, governance, and member value. Emphasis was placed on accountability, effective implementation, and continuous monitoring.

The retreat benefited from contributions by key industry partners, including the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), Zamara, Sanlam Allianz Investments, GenAfrica Asset Managers, Kenbright Consultants, and ACAL, reinforcing best practices in governance and decision-making.
Trustees concluded the retreat with renewed alignment and commitment to safeguarding members’ benefits and upholding the highest standards of governance, transparency, and long-term sustainability.
